Rabbi Yitzi Hurwitz has ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease). A bold statement to begin with, however, that is NOT at all what defines him. He is one of the hardest working and well known Rabbi’s in Chabad. He is an immense source of knowledge, humor, candor, and insight. Every week he writes a blog about the weekly Torah Portion and couples it with his own personal connection. Its extremely humbling to read week after week these very poignant blog entries knowing that he did it while not having any physical mobility. Physical limitations have not deterred him from being an amazing father, devoted and loving husband and constant teacher.
So why are WE running?? How many times have we said “I wish there was something we could do to help?” to various situations that seem tragic yet not within our control? Running gives us a chance to try to make a small difference to give back to a family that gives to so many. Rabbi Yitzi inspires so many people with his weekly dvar torah and exemplifies going beyond ones limitations. This run takes us out of our comfort zones (quite literally for my bad knees!!), and is one way we can try to go beyond our limitations. We are running to help raise much needed funds to help with the constant medical and other expenses for the Hurwitz family.
